1. Who is SALLY?
What a deep and open ended question...when people ask me what I do, I tell them I do my best ; ) and I usually extract a laugh from that. I am 44 years young, have two gorgeous kids aged 15 and 12, wife to Tim, English and History Teacher/Creative Copywriter (basically a ‘Slashy’ as I have too many interests). Pseudo academic (I have three university degrees, and would love to study more), nature, music and laughter lover, traveller, dancer, skier, fisherwoman, tennis player, theatre, film, and arts patron, closet spiritualist and sci-fi nerd, passionate reader and devoted logophile. I am fascinated by human nature and love observing it. My goal is to express my creativity and share it, proudly.
2. What is the number one lesson you've learned that you would share with your 12 year old self if you could?
To quieten your noisy and unhelpful inner-critic and trust yourself in all your quirkiness, as your neurodiversity is a great gift. Your emotions and feelings, all of them, are good. Feel them, express them and honour them. Appreciate everything. Every. Little. Thing. Moment. Experience. It’s all making you who you are, and you’re going to be OK.
3. What does wellbeing mean to you personally and how do you practice self-care/self-love?
Simply, wellbeing inverted: Being Well. Health above all, is the greatest wealth. Practicing self-care/self-love wasn’t a familiar concept or habit until I met Sheri and Candice and worked with them on their brand. The notion of loving oneself whilst applying skin-care has taught me a lot about the energy I imbue into what I do and how I move through life. I wasn’t conscious of it before, but I was extremely self-critical and this might sound like a cheesy plug, but by using the Mantras on the FRIISMITH products whilst I cleansed my skin, I was able to flip my unconscious narrative for the better, not with everything I do, but I’m working on it.
4. How do you ensure you prioritise the time to focus on your wellness journey?
My ability to function is dependent on it, so I now make sure it happens. Eventually it has become second nature, but perhaps I had to become unwell to realise how important it is. Rest, diet, emotional regulation, exercise (in all its iterations-including housework), all leads to the elusive concept of ‘balance’. It boils down to knowing what I need, when I need it, and choosing to do it. Telling myself to stop and rest, allowing myself grace, and saying ‘no’ when I need to, have all been revolutionary. I also tell my kids what I can and cannot do, and they have learned to help out, and hopefully respect and honour their own energy levels too. It was a tough road to get here, but I’m proud I’ve learned how.
5. Who inspires you the most and why?
People who overcome adversity and allow it to be their greatest teachers; they seem to have an inner knowing, and radiate it. Once again, a bit of cheese factor here, but my kids, my husband, and my closest family members and dearest beloved friends (especially Sheri Friis) also inspire me particularly when I’m down, to simply be me, and that that’s more than enough.
6. What does radiance mean to you?
An inner joy, transmuting outward, toward others. First sensed, then experienced. A bit like the Japanese and Chinese concept of Double Happiness, when it’s shared, it expands. I’m sure a theoretical physicist could expound upon this matter (pun intended ;)) but that’s not me, yet.
7. What is your favourite FRII[S]MITH product and why do you love it?
I have two favourites, and like my children, I will not choose just one. The Night Serum. I love how my skin almost drinks it in, and it works its alchemy/chemistry when I am literally doing nothing! The Daily Tint-I’ve never loved my skin tone, but a dab of this makes me feel gorgeous, and knowing that it’s full of good stuff for my skin-seems a bit like a great dressing on a healthy salad LOL.
